BASICS
Q: Who can list? A: Freelancers and businesses located within the county of San Diego can list. Listees must either work in the film production industry or provide relevant support services. Listing forms must be complete. All listees are evaluated on a case by case basis. There is no charge for listing.
Q: I'm a freelancer, how do I get listed? A: First of all, you must reside within the county of San Diego. If you do, then send in a resume one page to resourceguide@sdfilm.com . Providing that it shows relevant work or education you will receive the listing form for the next edition. Be sure to include your address.
Q: How do I list my business? A: Your business must be located within the county of San Diego. If it is, then send in your business brochure so we have an idea what services or products your business provides. We will use this information to evaluate where your business fits in the film and video production industry.
Q: I'm a freelancer but I own a business. Can I list both the business name and myself in the same category? A: No. You may want to consider placing a display ad or mini-ad and use that as a way to associate your name with your business name. We do allow for people to list as freelancers and to list their business as long as the listings are in separate categories. A good example is a grip who also has a business which rents lighting and grip equipment.
Q: Why is there a limit to the number of listings I can have? A: Some people feel that they are competent to work in many capacities. We don't want to sell San Diego as a region of Jacks of All Trades, Masters of Nothing. If you have many talents to sell, try selling them in a display ad strategically located.
Q: Why are there categories that you list only freelancers? A: These are categories where a department head hires individuals. Restricting the entries in these categories enables the Resource Guide to more accurately represent individual freelancers, e.g., the hair stylist not the salon.

LISTING RENEWAL & UPDATES Q: I'm in a hurry, why can't I just call you and tell you what my new phone number is? A: We must have original, written information from you so we have something original to proof our data entry against. You can either email your updates to resourceguide@sdfilm.com or you can drop a change of address postcard (the kind you can get from the post office) in the mail. Or, better yet, send us an updated resume with all of your current contact information!
Q: Why do I have to renew my listing every year? A: We have no way of knowing if you are still working in the industry, still living in the region, or even still among the living unless we hear from you. You know what they say about assuming ...
Q: Why can't I update my info online? A: We mail out listing forms to verify that the address you provide is in fact your address.
Q: How do I renew, change, and/or update my listing? A: Individualized listing renewal forms are mailed out in April for the next edition. The forms are individualized so that you can see and verify the information we have for you. If you have sent in a resume or business brochure, or if you are listed in the current edition of the Resource Guide a form will be mailed to the last address you have provided us. No forms will be sent out after the Friday before the deadline. The deadline for the '09 edition is Monday, July 14, 2008.

DEADLINE Q: When is the deadline to return my forms? A: The deadline for the '09 edition is July 14, 2008, the second Monday in July.
Q: I missed the deadline, what can I do? A: Send in your resume or business brochure. It's how you will get a listing form for the next edition. We do send out current resumes of qualified freelancers to productions that are crewing up.
Q: I missed the deadline. Is it too late to send in my listing form? A: Listing forms received post-deadline will be kept on file and any changes will be made to the publication database only.

ADVERTISING Q: I don't like the placement of my display ad in the last edition -- I wanted it to be at the beginning of the category but it wasn't. Can't I get guaranteed placement? A: Unfortunately, most people want their ad to be at the beginning of the category. It is our policy to place ads run-of-the-book. Every consideration will be made to place your display ad where you request but there are many co-dependent factors to consider. Placement can be guaranteed for full page ads only.
Q: When is your drop deadline? A: We have only one deadline – July 14, 2008 -- it's the second Monday in July. That is the date that all materials (listings, display ad artwork, and payments) need to be in for the next edition.

GETTING THE RESOURCE GUIDE Q: You haven't sent me my copy of the Resource Guide. How do I get a copy of the new Resource Guide? A: The Resource Guide is NOT automatically sent to the listees. It never has been. As soon as we get a delivery date from our printer we mail out invitations to the resource guide party. Everyone listed in the guide is invited. It is at this party where you can get your copy of the guide, sample the fare of several caterers, and socialize with other people who are either in the industry or provide support services. If you can't make it, just call and we'll send out a copy of the guide to you.
Q: When does the next edition come out? A: The new editions of the Resource Guide come out in the fall and are dated for the upcoming year.
Q: Why isn't the Resource Guide online? A: We have the greatest opportunity to start a solid relationship with a producer or location scout during the initial inquiry. It's a relationship that leads to more than just one location being used, more than just one PA working for a day, and more projects in the future. If the Resource Guide were online, many of these inquiries would not occur.
