February 5th 2008 - A February Update from the San Diego Film Commission:
- With the writer’s strike over, the SDFC is making every effort to capture the projects that were suspended as a result. We have a television series in development, written for San Diego that will hopefully surface now that the strike is over.
- The San Diego audition episode of American Idol aired on Fox in January and was watched by over 34 million viewers. The San Diego Film Commission selected icon locations, helped map out the shooting days and assisted in getting the local crews, hotels and other services for the production. American Idol left over $1 million dollars in San Diego.
- Two independent feature films The Outside, a surf saga, starring David Garciadei (The Young & the Restless), and 25 to Life, focusing on young, urban Latino stories has wrapped. Proud American, an independent feature, is ready to start filming this week. They will be filming in urban locations, City College, UCSD, and a private residence.
- The Walt Disney Travel Company is filming a documentary at several icon locations this week which will be great exposure for San Diego. A music video starring an up-and-coming rap artist will be filming at a closed off-ramp in Oceanside and at a warehouse in Barrio Logan. A commercial for Mobil Oil will be filming in East County. A Hummer commercial has selected East County for their shoot on a private ranch. Other car commercials are scouting San Diego.
